I was at San Siro to watch the football match game and I have been lucky enough to meet a real Milanese like Daniele Massaro (former great Milan team player) and upon my request for advice on where to eat excellent Milanese cuisine on Sunday evening (they are almost all closed on Sunday evening) called his friend that reserved a place for me in his restaurant.
And so I found myself eating at Gianni’s restaurant, a Sardinian – is from Nuoro in fact – that for over 35 years manages the Nuova Arena, a famous and historic trattoria in Milan.
Well attended; real Milanese families, elegant entrepreneurs accompanied by the driver and also famous people.
The place was full and this is almost always a symptom of good kitchen.
The New Arena is in fact a trattoria, relatively small and unchanged since ever.
Varied cuisine but typical Milanese.
I took fried anchovies as an appetizer, accompanied by a hot “focaccia”.
And as a main course a very good Milanese ossobuco with risotto.
To drink an Ichnusa craft beer.
Average – high prices, but it is almost inevitable.
