Taormina

During the almost 1500 sicilian coast km, between Messina and Catania and in front of Calabria there is one of the most beautiful places of Italy: Taormina. It was founded at least in the VIII century b.c. , is rich of monuments (above all the Ancient Theater and Naumachie, from III and I century b.c. Castled on an hill, it is on a unique scenery: it is wet by a marvelous sea both  at the foot of the hill, in Mazzarò and in Naxos Gardens’ bay. The coast is morphologically special (the Isola Bella and its bay are wonderful), in front of Calabria  and on the right, beyond Naxos Gardens, the wonderful sicilian coast, and at the end the Europe’s highest volcano, the Etna, that with its 3343 mt dominates the south-eastern  part of Sicily.

There are many high level hotels both in Taormina and in the lower part; for those who want to stay by the sea we recommend Villa Sant’Andrea, Atlantis Bay, Atahotel Capotaormina, all close to Isola Bella. For these hotels on the sea, there is usually a shuttle service to Taormina, otherwise there is the cablecar Mazzarò-Taormina  (€ 3,00 one way) or Interbus bus (€ 1,90 one way). Taxis are very expensive.

There are many high level places to eat fish, we recommend:

1) Osteria RossoDivino, Taormina
2) L’Acquario, Giardini di Naxos

It is very easy to get to Taormina; the Catania International airport is at 40 minutes driving (or 90 euro, by taxi), thanks to Interbus there is a bus service (€ 7,50 an hour and a half journey).

There are many things to do such an  excursion on the Etna, Acitrezza, a visit to Noto and Siracusa, or go to one of the most beautiful beaches of Sicily: Calamosche (144km from Taormina)
